Seeking God's Guidance through Scripture
When I returned to Kenya after years of living abroad, I was struck by the vibrant colors and sounds of our beautiful country. As I stepped out of my car in my hometown, the cacophony of horns honking, people chatting, and market vendors calling out their wares hit me like a symphony. But amidst this chaos, one phrase kept echoing in my mind: "Seek His guidance."
I had been feeling lost, uncertain about the next chapter in my life. As I began to pray, asking God for clarity and direction, I opened my Bible to seek wisdom. The words of Psalm 119 jumped out at me: "Turn my heart to Your statutes; Do not turn me away from Your commandments. Give me understanding, and I will keep Your law" (Psalm 119:33-34). These verses spoke directly to my soul, reminding me that God's Word is the source of true guidance.
In my book, Whispers Beneath the Baobab, I share stories of how God has spoken to me through His Word. One story that comes to mind is when I was struggling to reconcile my passion for writing with my calling as a pastor. I felt torn between these two pursuits, unsure which path to follow. As I poured over Scripture, 2 Timothy 4:13 stood out: "The cloths and scrolls are mine; how long shall I be silent? How long shall I hold my peace? For the wicked do not understand God's way nor agree with His saints." These words gave me permission to trust God's guidance, even when it didn't make sense to others.
I realized that seeking God's guidance through Scripture is not a one-time event but a continuous process. It requires patience, surrender, and an openness to the Holy Spirit's leading. As I applied this lesson to my life, I began to experience His peace and clarity in ways I never thought possible.
My friends, if you're feeling lost or uncertain about your next steps, remember that God has not left you without guidance. His Word is a treasure trove of wisdom, comfort, and direction. Take time to read it, meditate on it, and ask the Holy Spirit to speak through its pages. Trust that He will meet you there with a peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7).
As I look out at our vibrant country, I am reminded of the importance of seeking God's guidance in every season of life. May His Word be our compass, leading us closer to His heart and guiding us on our journey with Him.
